The name comes from one of the main characters in O.Henry's classic tale, "The Gift of the Magi." This timeless
story tells of a young couple, Della and James, who sacrifice their most treasured possessions to purchase
the perfect gifts for one another. Della sells her beautiful long hair to buy James a fob chain for his
watch, while James sells his watch to buy Della jeweled combs for her hair. Their love and selflessness
reflect the true spirit of gift-giving.
O. Henry ends the story with the following lines,
"And here I have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most
unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. But in a last word to the wise of
these days let it be said that of all who gave gifts these two were the wisest."
