Stripes are red hot this year and these bold, bright styles are traveling off the Paris
runways and into your bedroom. While you're signing up for staples like sheets and
comforters, be sure to register for a few throw pillows or even a sham in broad candy-colored
lines. Your guests will love the variety of gift choices and you'll have a splash of color
to perk up your whites.
Kitchen
We love the look of chrome and steel, polished to a high shine. And this year we've got lots
of great metallic looks for the kitchen, from spice racks and bread bins to sleek wine racks.
Theme your kitchen with a line of shiny metal appliances, or brighten up dim corners with a
few selected pieces. Either way, you've got a kitchen that's very sharp and very now.
Tabletop
Today's glassware is going retro -- with a twist. Brandy snifters are back in style, and
martini and margarita glasses have made appearances all over. Toss in a few double highball
glasses to add a dash of forties glamour to your thoroughly modern bar.
Bed and Bath
Comforters are the ultimate for wintertime snuggling -- after your new husband, of course.
But what about summer sleeping? We recommend the new down blanket -- ultra-thin and filled
with duck or goose down, it provides the snuggle-factor of a comforter without the wintertime
weight.

In our grandmother's day, successful entertaining was all about having the right plates,
glasses and flatware. Pots and pans were meant to do a job and best be kept out of sight.
Not any more. Cooking is no longer a means to an end -- often the party is in the preparations
themselves. Don't be caught without the right tools for the job. Pasta and bread makers,
asparagus pots, espresso machines and specialized sauce whisks are all making their way onto
modern registries. Recently, we even spotted a spatula designed just for brownies!
