Stephanie Lo and Brian Rutkowsky
September 20, 2003
Stone Harbor, NJ
One wedding worry most couples seem to have is that it will rain on their wedding day. Stephanie and Brian had something even bigger to fret about -- Hurricane Isabel. In the days leading up to their wedding, the powerful storm was beating down on Stone Harbor, where the ceremony was to take place.
Fortunately, the storm passed on the eve of the wedding, and the next day was rain-free and surprisingly warm. The high-school sweethearts held their beachside ceremony in front of the 113 guests who had braved the hurricane to make it to their celebration.
As a nod to her Chinese heritage, the bride decorated the reception site, Stone Harbor Yacht Club, with bamboo and the color red, both symbols of good luck in China. Guests let loose at the lively affair, their spirit rubbing off on the couple, especially the bride, who donned a glow stick bracelet as she and her husband cut their wedding cake.
