Emily Baumgartner and Marc Lewis
October 9, 2004
Incline Village, NV
Despite spending much of their relationship attending schools in different states, and even countries, Emily and Marc, who first became friends in high school, knew they were meant to be together. Finally finding themselves out of school and living in the same place, Marc secretly began crafting his romantic proposal plan. After he surprised Emily with a ring in the gardens of the Getty Center hours before they jetted off on a planned vacation to Europe, the wedding planning got underway. They picked an October wedding date and chose the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village as their ceremony and reception site, primarily for its stunning ceremony setting--a beautiful lawn on the Lake Tahoe shore, surrounded by pine trees and the mountains.
October in Lake Tahoe can mean sun, rain, snow, or any combination of the three, depending on the day. On the morning of Emily and Marc's wedding day, rain was in the forecast so they debated moving their afternoon ceremony indoors. Throwing caution to the wind, they decided to risk it and, though it was cloudy all day, when their ceremony time arrived they were rewarded with sunny skies. Mother Nature was certainly smiling on them that day.
Following the moving ceremony, guests ventured inside to the ballroom, which also boasts panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. The unsettled sky produced a beautiful sunset--and a brief hailstorm, which thankfully held off until guests were inside. Following a cocktail hour and dinner, the members of the bridal party spoke about the bride and groom, capped off by a video slideshow assembled by the best man and the sister of the groom. The couple then wowed their guests with a choreographed--and well-rehearsed--first dance to Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon." The party then kicked into high gear as everyone hit the dance floor, where they remained for most of the night. It's safe to say a great time was had by all, and the festivities, along with a month-long honeymoon, were the perfect way for Emily and Marc to start their new life together.
