Yashika Dooley & Christopher Chang
September 16, 2006
Washington, DC
Six years after meeting at Martha's Vineyard through a mutual friend, Chris woke Shika from her afternoon nap and presented her with a beautiful carved wooden box shaped like a book entitled, "A Love Story." The box was filled with mementos of their years together, including his business card with her phone number written on it. After an hour of going through the entire collection, Yashika found a note at the bottom of the box that read, "And oddly enough, after all these years and memories, the love story has just begun." She lowered the note from her eyes to find Chris down on one knee with a ring -- and he asked her to marry him.
The outdoor ceremony took place in the garden of the Meridian House, followed by a cocktail hour and reception held indoors. A special aspect of the ceremony was to have their friends and family seated so they were encircled by them, as the couple felt it important to be surrounded by those who loved and supported them. An elegant garden feel was the vision of the decor, using shades of fuchsia in both flowers and fabrics. Instead of a garter and bouquet toss, the couple had special spotlight dances based on the number of years guests has been married. All in all, the day was romantic, meaningful, poignant, and fun - everything a dream wedding should be.
