For over thirty-five years, Cyprus-born bridal designer Christos Yiannakou has been designing fashionable, elegant and understated gowns for brides all over the world. However, he found his place in the world of bridal couture by chance. After studying fashion, Christos moved to New York and worked as a freelance designer until he was offered his first bridal job with designer Galina. "I wasn't really thinking about bridal gowns," says Christos. But he had found his niche. "There's a lot of detail in wedding gowns, and I'm a detail person." In 1984, he started his own company and now offers a wide variety of bridal fashions. Christos rarely sketches his designs, preferring to create his dresses on a model, in the style of classic French couture.
In 1996, Bridal Guide Magazine honored Christos with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to bridal design and inducted him into their Hall of Fame. Christos has also received designer's awards from BRIDE'S Magazine and from the Traphagen School of Design.
