Lazaro (Perez), the Cuban-born New York bridal designer, is frequently described as the leading innovator of the contemporary-classic look in silhouettes, themes and moods. Lazaro's career as a designer of wedding gowns seems pre-ordained. In 1982, while still a student at the Ray College of Design in Chicago, he was awarded "Best New Bridal Designer" in a national competition sponsored by a large chain of bridal shops.
With his premiere collection for Spring 1994, Lazaro established himself as a master of construction and detail. Lazaro is strongly influenced by the great Cristobal Balenciaga, one of fashion history's undisputed masters of haute couture. "Essentially, I strive for my clothes to combine the perfect cut and sumptuous fabrics," says Lazaro. "My customer is a sophisticated woman with refined taste and a sense of personal style."
Spring 2000 saw the premiere of Ensembles, Lazaro's collection for the bridesmaid. The use of rich fabrics and attention to construction and detail serve to make Ensembles a seasonless collection with silhouettes that flatter.
