| | America loves him for his gorgeous gowns and snazzy sportswear. He delivers consistently classy collections that have got you covered head (sunglasses) to toe (a new shoe line), and include lacy lingerie and entrance-making coats. Until recently he was lending some of his impeccable style to the chic Balmain label (as the first American ever to design for a French couture house) and last year he introduced his latest fragrance, Intrusion, to great success. Now he's set to launch an ambitious home furnishings collection.
So at the Spring 2003 bridal collections, fashion editors were thrilled to finally witness the debut of his first collection of wedding gowns. Breathtaking designs are not a surprise when they're delivered by this prolific designer. But to impatient fashionistas craving de la Renta-like pizzazz in the world of white satin and lace, this debut was still worth the wait. From an elegant sheath topped with a floating organza cathedral-length cape to hand-stitched and re-embroidered ribbons tracing an ultra-feminine silhouette of silk faille, all are Oscar winners.
