| | As one leading bridal designer always ahead of the game, Vera Wang presented her Fall/Winter 2003 bridal collection recently, revealing a glimpse into the near future. And the word is: Wow! Wang's forward thinking has placed her collection on a whole new level of bridal couture. Wang describes her new perspective as "a study in texture, weight and construction."
On the runway this translated, basically, as surprisingly innovative approaches to detail (pinking, crochet, topstitching) and fabrications, including draped tulle, quilted taffeta and knitted cashmere. Even the most minimalist of dresses were graced with tiny, perfect touches, often with a lingerie feel, such as picot edging, the teeniest of tucked straps, delicate lace insets and fragile layers of diaphanous fabrics. Out-of-the-box thinking was applied to the way these creations might be worn, too, with "traditional" or "informal" jettisoned in favor, it seemed, of "Old Hollywood" (for the sexy, super confident bride) and "Nordic Goddess" (for the stylish bride wanting something covered and cozy for her Aspen nuptials to a rock star).
