Communication has never been more important than it is when you first move in together. Habits such as leaving stockings in the shower, clothes on the floor, dishes in the sink or crumbs on the counter can all start as subtle irritants and become major dramas. Try to address them as they come up and not be insulted or insulting. Just because you've both been living your own way all your life doesn't mean you can't modify your behavior. However, do pick your battles, perhaps choosing the top few habits that really bother you instead of bringing up every single thing. You were not put on this earth to change your partner. The goal is to get along without making the other person feel diminished because their ways are different from yours. Some habits you must just learn to deal with.
